Recap: Santa Fe Raiders vs. Newberry Panthers
The Santa Fe Raiders suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They were outmatched by Newberry on the road and fell 91-41. Santa Fe has struggled against Newberry recently, as their game on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Santa Fe saw an underclassman step up: Haleigh Richburgh scored 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Chohan, who scored six points.
Newberry was led to victory by Sarah Beaulieu and Brandy Whitfield. Beaulieu dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 assists, while Whitfield scored 35 points along with six assists and six steals. Beaulieu also pulled down eight rebounds for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Ariyah Debose, who scored 11 points.
Santa Fe has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Newberry, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Fe will face off against Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newberry won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Williston at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Williston is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
