Softball Recap: Liberty Wins Going Away Against Margaretta

The Liberty Raiders got the win against the Margaretta Polar Bears on Friday by a conclusive 17-2. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

McKinlea Hill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, Katie Mullens was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Hartshorn, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Liberty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .815. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Liberty's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Margaretta, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Coming up, Liberty will challenge Woodrow Wilson at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Margaretta, they will take on Huron at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
