Baseball Game Preview: Sunlake Seahawks vs. Mitchell Mustangs

Sunlake and Mitchell are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. Sunlake will welcome Mitchell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sunlake will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Sunlake's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Zephyrhills with a sharp 11-0 win. That looming 11-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Seahawks yet this season.

Cameron Nunez looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Matt Anthony was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Andre Monzon II was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Sunlake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Mitchell never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Anclote on Thursday. They blew past the Sharks 11-3. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Sunlake's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Mitchell, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Everything went Sunlake's way against Mitchell in their previous meeting on Tuesday, as Sunlake made off with a 7-0 victory. Will Sunlake repeat their success, or does Mitchell has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
