Softball Recap: Central Islip Musketeers vs. Walt Whitman Wildcats
Central Islip extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-3. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Walt Whitman Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 back in March.
As for Walt Whitman, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games.
For Walt Whitman's part, Brynn Iacovone made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Iacovone has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
In other batting news, Maya Rowser was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Brooklyn Sanchez Bustamante also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Central Islip will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Sachem East at 5:00 p.m. on May 7. As for Walt Whitman, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Half Hollow Hills East at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
