Volleyball Recap: Van Wert Comes Up Short

Van Wert lost against Shawnee back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cougars came up short against the Indians, falling 3-0. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

The match finished with set scores of 25-6, 25-12, 25-5.

Van Wert's offense was headlined by Flannery Foster and Amaya Dowdy, who picked up two kills apiece. They were helped by Brissia Ickes and Jazzlyn Florence, who contributed two assists each.

Karleigh Hutchins was nothing short of spectacular for Shawnee: she had 12 aces, ten digs, and eight kills. Those 12 aces gave Hutchins a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chelsea Burkholder, who had 21 assists and four digs.

Van Wert's defeat dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Shawnee, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Van Wert didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Waynesfield-Goshen on the 4th. As for Shawnee, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Ottawa-Glandorf on the 7th.
