Baseball Recap: Gilbert Drops Highest Score of Season Against South Mountain

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gilbert). They blew past the South Mountain Jaguars 26-2 on Wednesday. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Brody Dial looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Gilbert got a massive performance out of Wilfredo Aviles IV, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three hits gave Aviles IV a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Goodman, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Gilbert always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .737. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Gilbert's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-14. As for South Mountain, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-18.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilbert will host Higley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Mountain, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Camelback at 3:45 p.m.
