Baseball Recap: Traverse City Christian Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Traverse City Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Ellsworth Lancers a 12-0 shutout on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Sabres considering their two-run performance the match before.

Parker Hoover made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Hoover was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Traverse City Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Christian Brower was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Reece Broderick was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Traverse City Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Traverse City Christian pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Ellsworth, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Traverse City Christian will head out on the road to challenge Mason County Eastern at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Ellsworth, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Mancelona at 4:00 p.m.
