Softball Recap: Northwestern Comes Up Short

Northwestern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Clover Blue Eagles, falling 11-3. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 12-3 to the Blue Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Northwestern saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carmen Kelly, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Kelly also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Another was Jo Schmidt, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Northwestern's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Clover, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwestern will square off against Lancaster at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lancaster is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season. As for Clover, they will face off against Dorman at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dorman's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Clover's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
