Baseball Recap: Waverly Comes Up Short

Waverly extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-6 in the process. They fell 4-1 to the Wheelersburg Pirates. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Wheelersburg, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games.

For Wheelersburg's part, Jack Picklesimer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits.

At the plate, Brody Wilburn was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jake Clevenger, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waverly will face off against Fairfield Union at 7:00 p.m. on the 9th. As for Wheelersburg, they will square off against Ironton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Fighting Tigers will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
