Baseball Game Preview: Bassick Lions vs. Wolcott RVT Wildcats

The Bassick Lions will head out to square off against the Wolcott RVT Wildcats at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Bassick has struggled recently with 12 defeats in a row, while Wolcott RVT will arrive with five straight victories.

Bassick made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Wright Tech, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Lions fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 5-3 on Monday.

Meanwhile, Wolcott RVT hadn't done well against Northwestern Regional recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats blew past the Highlanders 8-2. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Damian Webb made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Wolcott RVT got a big performance out of Brody Nadeu, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Nadeu has posted over his last nine matches. Another player making a difference was Devon Schmitt, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Wolcott RVT was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwestern Regional only posted a batting average of .045.

Wolcott RVT pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bassick, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.

Bassick might still be hurting after the 19-0 defeat they got from Wolcott RVT in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
