Baseball Recap: Maricopa Takes a Loss

Maricopa fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against McClintock on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the McClintock Chargers by a score of 5-4. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 17, 2018, but that streak is no more.

Will Hawkins was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Hawkins was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Travis Varela was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Connor Jackson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.

Maricopa now has a losing record of 2-3. As for McClintock, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2.

Coming up, Maricopa will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Cholla at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for McClintock, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Alhambra at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
