Softball Game Preview: Chaparral Firebirds vs. Desert Mountain Wolves

For the second straight game, Chaparral will face off against Desert Mountain. The Firebirds will head out to face off against the Wolves at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Chaparral is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Desert Mountain on Monday. They lost 12-2 to the Wolves. The Firebirds have struggled against the Wolves recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

For Desert Mountain's part, Avery Gehrke was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Gehrke has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Eve Huczek, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Desert Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Desert Mountain's win was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-1-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Chaparral, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Chaparral hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Desert Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs.
