Basketball Recap: Neshoba Central Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Chelsea, Neshoba Central was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They pulled ahead with a 44-43 photo finish over the Ridgeland Titans. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Titans are ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Neshoba Central to victory were Shastyn Lewis and Lailah Henry. Lewis posted ten points, while Henry had nine points. Lewis has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Candace Lyons was another key player, putting up five points and nine boards.

Ridgeland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaelyn Luckett, who earned 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals, and Eva Young, who put up 17 points and six boards.

The win got Neshoba Central back to even at 12-12. As for Ridgeland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-13.

Neshoba Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-50 victory against Vicksburg on the 24th. As for Ridgeland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 46-37 win against Warren Central on the 24th.
