Basketball Recap: Dakota Falls Despite Big Games from Brooklyn Garavaglia and Meadow Cameron

If Dakota was riding high fresh off their 62-33 takedown of River Rouge last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Dakota Cougars fell 46-37 to the Utica Ford Falcons on Thursday. The contest was a 18-18 toss-up at halftime, but the Cougars couldn't quite close it out.

Dakota's loss came despite strong showings from Meadow Cameron and Brooklyn Garavaglia. Cameron dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards, while Garavaglia posted 17 points and three steals. The game was Cameron's third in a row with at least 16 points. Gia Rizzo also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Dakota smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Dakota's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Utica Ford, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dakota will venture away from home to challenge Grosse Pointe North at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. As for Utica Ford, they will head out to square off against Cousino at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Cousino has won five straight at home, while Utica Ford won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
