Softball Recap: Sparta Continues Road Dominance on Friday

Sparta hadn't done well against Oakridge recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Taliya Dauser spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grace Schmid and Jurnee Ross did most of the damage at the plate: Schmid went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs, while Ross went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Schmid has posted over her last nine matchups. Alexa VanVliet was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Sparta's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-10. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Oakridge, their defeat ended a 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Eagles beat Sparta by a score of 15-9 later that day.
