The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs will square off against the Unioto Shermans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Unioto's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Saturday: Lynchburg-Clay hadn't allowed a single run the last five times they've hit the field. The Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand Fayetteville-Perry an 11-0 shutout on Friday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.
Christian Flowers made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Flowers was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Trevor Niehaus and Josiah Burns did most of the damage at the plate: Niehaus scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Burns scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Burns has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Cody Bell was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Lynchburg-Clay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Unioto made sure to put some runs up on the board against Southeastern on Friday. The Shermans put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-0 win.
Like Lynchburg-Clay, Unioto also got a great game from a two-way player: KB Perkins. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Perkins also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Unioto is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Perkins was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Callaway Ratliff, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Keegan Snyder, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Lynchburg-Clay's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Unioto, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Lynchburg-Clay's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's match. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 stolen bases per game.
