Baseball Recap: Turner Comes Up Short

Turner extended their losing streak to 15 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-18. They fell 7-4 to the Piper Pirates. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Bears of the 5-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Turner saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lukas Reynolds, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Piper, they pushed their record up to 16-6 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Piper's side, Blake Wiss looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wiss has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Piper let Mason Porter and Connor Musil run wild. Porter went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Musil went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Porter has posted over his last four matchups. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Simons, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Piper will take on St. James Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunder have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. Turner will be paying especially close attention to Piper's game: after Piper faces off against St. James Academy, they'll take on Turner again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
