It was a proper cat-fight when St. Mary's-Colgan challenged Baxter Springs on Monday. The Panthers took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. The Panthers' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

St. Mary's-Colgan was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Baxter Springs work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 28-26, 25-20.

Bella Ascanio paced St. Mary's-Colgan's offense, picking up 12 kills. Ascanio got some help from Izzy Tierney and her 11 assists.

St. Mary's-Colgan's loss dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Baxter Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.

St. Mary's-Colgan will face off against Webb City on Saturday. As for Baxter Springs, they will take on Chetopa on Monday.
