Speculation of where Kyler Murray would be playing baseball next year came to an end this week when the Texas A&M recruit
announced via Twitter that he was "opting out" of the Major League Baseball draft, which will be held in June.
A two-time MaxPreps National Player of the Year in football, Murray gained in popularity as a baseball recruit last summer and was even pegged by one mock draft as a potential first-round draft pick. MaxPreps has Murray, a shortstop,
ranked as the No. 60 player in the Class of 2015.
Allen finished the baseball season with a 10-14 record and Murray batted .286 (18-for-63) with a double, two triples and one home run. He scored 18 runs and had four RBIs.
Murray will reportedly play both baseball and football at Texas A&M next season.
According to an ESPN report, Murray will begin practicing with the Aggies this summer and compete for the starting quarterback job.
Murray led Allen to three straight state football championships in his three seasons as the varsity quarterback. Murray never lost a game he started, going 42-0 in the process. He threw for 4,715 yards (278 of 433) with 54 touchdowns and also rushed for 1,498 yards on 151 carries with 24 touchdowns. For his career, Murray completed 638 of 1,007 passes for 10,386 yards and 117 touchdowns.
According to a report on Baseball America, Murray's decision to opt out of the draft means that he will not be eligible for selection.
