Softball Recap: Nicholas County Has No Trouble Against Calvary Christian

Nicholas County won the last time they faced Calvary Christian and things went their way on Thursday too. The Bluejackets' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 17-0 shutout. The contest marked the Bluejackets' most dominant win of the season.

Sidney Sexton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Nicholas County got a massive performance out of Bristal Caswell, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Caswell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mady Adams, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Nicholas County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calvary Christian only managed two hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Nicholas County and bumps their season record up to 6-20. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Calvary Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season.

Nicholas County will face off against Paris at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Calvary Christian, they will head out on the road to take on St. Henry at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars are facing the Crusaders at the right time seeing as the Crusaders are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
