Baseball Game Preview: Calloway County Lakers vs. Murray Tigers

For the second straight game, Calloway County will face off against Murray. The Lakers will face off against the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Calloway County had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Murray put an end to it on Tuesday. The Lakers took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The Lakers' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

For Murray's part, Will McCoil was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McCoil has become a key player for Murray: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 10-12 otherwise. McCoil was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Cody Garner was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Starks, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Murray lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Murray is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Calloway County, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.
