While East Mecklenburg's victory against Butler wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. East Mecklenburg narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Butler 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 3, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Dillon Romig, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Liam Parsons was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Community School of Davidson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Langtree Charter Academy, sneaking past 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won eight in a row.
Community School of Davidson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Moran, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Another was Landon Whittington, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
East Mecklenburg is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-4 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing nine hits in those games compared to only 5.5 in the others. Community School of Davidson's victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. East Mecklenburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .484. However, it's not like Community School of Davidson struggles in that department as they've averaged .512. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
