Basketball Recap: Southside's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Laurens, Southside was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They managed a 48-42 victory over the Emerald Vikings. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

When it comes to explaining why Emerald lost, don't look at Da'Marquis Hopkins. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds. Key Holloway was another key player, putting up four points along with eight boards and six assists.

Southside's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-10. As for Emerald, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southside will square off against Wren at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wren knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 matches -- so hopefully Southside likes a good challenge. As for Emerald, they will face off against Fountain Inn at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
