Softball Recap: Tunkhannock Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

Tunkhannock had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Monday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Hazleton Area Cougars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-0 on April 8th.

Michaela Howell made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Tunkhannock let Addisyn Waterman and MaKenzie Bevan run wild. Waterman went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Bevan went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. Waterman is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Newswanger, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Tunkhannock hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in eight consecutive contests.

Tunkhannock's record is now 13-1. As for Hazleton Area, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Tunkhannock is set to take on their familiar foe Pittston at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Hazleton Area will face off against rival Wyoming Valley West at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
