Baseball Game Preview: Maplesville Red Devils vs. West Blocton Tigers

The Maplesville Red Devils will head out to face off against the West Blocton Tigers at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Maplesville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Verbena 16-1 on Wednesday. The win was some much needed relief for Maplesville as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Jt Johnson looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Cade Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Brody Barnett also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Maplesville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, West Blocton had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Bulldogs. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

West Blocton pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Maplesville, their record is now 2-12.

Maplesville came up short against West Blocton when the teams last played last Wednesday, falling 12-7. Can Maplesville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
