Basketball Recap: Westlake Takes Down Ranked Skyridge

On Friday, Westlake faced Skyridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Westlake Thunder sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-55 win over the Skyridge Falcons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Thunder have posted against the Falcons since January 19, 2021.

Westlake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keira Hester led the charge by putting up 13 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Thompson, who posted 11 points along with five boards and three steals.

Westlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Skyridge still got an impressive performance from Ellah Oeser, who went 9 of 13 on her way to 23 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Oeser a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Merceius Mili, who put up ten points.

Westlake is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points per game. As for Skyridge, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-7.
