After a string of nine wins, Union County's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took an 85-79 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Panthers came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Warriors are ranked 218th).

Jared Mitchell had a dynamite game for Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. What's more, Mitchell also racked up three blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Quintaris Tanner-Garrett was another key player, going 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points.

Union County's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 16-3. As for Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Union County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 78-58 victory against Coahulla Creek on the 22nd. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe has also already played their next match, a 65-64 win against Sonoraville on the 21st.
