Softball Game Preview: Classical Academy Caimans vs. Valley Center Jaguars

The Classical Academy Caimans will head out to challenge the Valley Center Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Valley Center took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Classical Academy, who comes in off a win.

Classical Academy not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 1, 2024. They were the clear victor by a 15-7 margin over La Jolla Country Day. The Caimans have beaten the Torreys the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Torreys has come to flipping the script.

Classical Academy got a massive performance out of Gezylah Key, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance gave Key a new career-high in stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Milena McConnell, who scored four runs and stole Three bases. while going 4-for-5.

Classical Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .439. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Jolla Country Day only posted a batting average of .273.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Valley Center's offense. They came up short against San Pasqual on Monday, falling 16-0. The loss continues a trend for the Jaguars in their meetings with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost eight in a row.

Valley Center now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Classical Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Valley Center's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Classical Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Valley Center, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Classical Academy's sizable advantage in that area, Valley Center will need to find a way to close that gap.
