Softball Game Preview: Yucca Valley Trojans vs. Twentynine Palms Wildcats

The Yucca Valley Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Twentynine Palms Wildcats at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Yucca Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.

Yucca Valley will bounce into Monday's match after beating Coachella Valley, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Mighty Arabs on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trojans.

The team relied heavily on Hannah Cusack, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Kaydance Steward was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Yucca Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Twentynine Palms lost 12-2 to Indio on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Rajahs: they've now lost eight in a row.

Twentynine Palms saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Briana Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Yucca Valley's victory bumped their record up to 9-7-1. As for Twentynine Palms, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.

Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Yucca Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .502. However, it's not like Twentynine Palms struggles in that department as they've averaged .504. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
