Baseball Recap: Apex Friendship Extends Winning Streak to Eight

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Apex Friendship ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They blew past the Asheville Cougars 10-4. Winning may never get old, but the Patriots sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Caden Oxendine looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Drew Ciaccio and Connor Sousa did most of the damage at the plate: Ciaccio scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Sousa went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Ciaccio is becoming a predictor of Apex Friendship's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Tyler Miles also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Apex Friendship pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Asheville, the loss snapped their winning streak at eight games and leaves them with a 8-4 record.

Apex Friendship didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-4 defeat against A.C. Reynolds on the 4th. As for Asheville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 9-4 victory against North Buncombe on the 4th.
