Football Recap: Jackson Memorial Comes Up Short

Jackson Memorial extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 2-7. They were dealt a 47-14 loss at the hands of the Brick Memorial Mustangs. The Jaguars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

As for Brick Memorial, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Jackson Memorial is ranked 120th).

Brick Memorial's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jason Lajara, who threw for 180 yards and four TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 46 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Lajara's passing game has become a key predictor of the Mustangs' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Brick Memorial's leading receiver Nyzier Matthews was Lajara's top target yet again, picking up 54 receiving yards and three scores.

As of now, neither Jackson Memorial nor the Mustangs have any future games scheduled.
