Basketball Recap: Alburnett Comes Up Short

After flying high against East Buchanan last Thursday, Alburnett came back down to earth. The Alburnett Pirates took a 68-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marquette Defenders on Friday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Defenders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

Alburnett's loss dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Marquette, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 20-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alburnett will take on Wilton at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Alburnett knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 contests -- so hopefully Wilton likes a good challenge. As for Marquette, they will face off against Dubuque Senior at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Dubuque Senior is on a five-game streak of home wins, Marquette a 22-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
