Chino Hills erupted for one the biggest scoring nights in California high school basketball history Tuesday, piling up 92 points in a 146-123 win over Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga).
The 6-foot-2 sophomore guard went 37 of 61 from the field and had 41 points in the fourth quarter alone. He also dished out seven assists and grabbed five rebounds.
Ball is the younger brother of UCLA freshman Lonzo Ball and Chino Hills senior
LiAngelo Ball, who did not play against Los Osos due to an ongoing ankle injury.
LiAngelo has scoring outbursts of 72, 60, 59 and 56 points this season.
Chino Hills improved to 26-1 with the win and is ranked No. 3 nationally this week by MaxPreps.
The Huskies, averaging 101.1 points per game this season, fell for the first time in 60 games over the weekend to Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) at the Nike Extravaganza.
Ball's effort is No. 2 all-time in California according to Cal-Hi Sports. The national record belongs to Danny Heater of Burnsville (W.Va.), who went for 135 points in January of 1960. At least 14 other players have scored 100 points or more in a game according to the National Federation of High Schools Record Book.
LaMelo didn't have the only off-the-charts statline in the game as teammate
Elizjah Scott went for 29 points, 17 rebounds and 14 assists.
