Basketball Game Preview: St. Augustine Saints vs. Roosevelt Mustangs

The St. Augustine Saints and the Roosevelt Mustangs will compete for holiday cheer at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

St. Augustine came up short against Carlsbad on Friday, falling 77-54. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 427th, while the Lancers are ranked 11th).

Meanwhile, Roosevelt waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They took down the Sentinels 111-92.

St. Augustine better keep an eye on Brayden Burries. He was instrumental in Roosevelt's win, dropping a double-double on 56 points and 16 rebounds. The game was Burries' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Walker, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points along with seven assists and six boards.

Roosevelt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January.

Roosevelt's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for St. Augustine, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

St. Augustine skirted past Roosevelt 54-52 in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Augustine since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
