Basketball Game Preview: Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils vs. Lyman Hall Trojans

The Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils will square off against the Lyman Hall Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Coginchaug Regional will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.

Coginchaug Regional will head into Friday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 41-point drubbing they dealt Old Lyme on Friday. Coginchaug Regional simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Old Lyme 67-26. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.

Maddy Benbow continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 of 20 en route to 25 points. Those 25 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shayla Vazquez, who posted seven points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Coginchaug Regional smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lyman Hall, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past East Haven 57-33 on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Coginchaug Regional's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. As for Lyman Hall, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Coginchaug Regional came up short against Lyman Hall in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 46-41. Can Coginchaug Regional avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
