Softball Game Preview: Wheeler Eagles vs. West Union Eagles

Wheeler hasn't had much luck against West Union recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Wheeler will face off against West Union at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Wheeler comes in on four and West Union on five.

Wheeler is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Pine Grove by a score of 8-4. Eight seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Marli Kate Shockley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kenzie Shaw was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Marley Garrett, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Wheeler hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pine Grove struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, West Union put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Strayhorn a 14-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by six runs or more this season.

West Union pushed their record up to 18-9 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wheeler, their victory bumped their record up to 20-7.
