Softball Preview: St. Francis Troubadours vs. Elk Grove Thundering Herd
The St. Francis Troubadours will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge the Elk Grove Thundering Herd at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
St. Francis lost 15-4 to Ponderosa on Monday.
St. Francis saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marissa Jensen, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another was Claire Krotine, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Even though they lost, St. Francis hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in five consecutive games dating back to last season.
Elk Grove never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Manteca last Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 10-1 margin over the Buffaloes.
Ryann Wolfe was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Loie Moore, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
St. Francis' loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Elk Grove, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
St. Francis might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Elk Grove in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can St. Francis avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
