The South Side Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Avella Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
South Side's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Bishop Canevin. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Maya Ringhoff made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Ringhoff was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anna Graff, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Halina Matijevich was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
South Side was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Avella not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 20-0). Everything went their way against Mapletown as they made off with a 12-2 win.
Like South Side, Avella also got a great game from a two-way player: Avrey Rado. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Rado was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Emily Buel was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Emma Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Avella has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for South Side, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 6-7.
South Side took their victory against Avella in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
