Softball Recap: Saint Mary's Hall Snags Seventh Win in Last Nine Games

Saint Mary's Hall took a 13-run loss the last time they faced off against San Antonio Christian, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Saint Mary's Hall sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over San Antonio Christian on Monday. For the Barons, this counts as revenge for the 16-3 victory the Lions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2020.

Meryl Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riley Wallace, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Harder Kuhm also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Saint Mary's Hall has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. San Antonio Christian's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-5.

Coincidentally, Saint Mary's Hall and San Antonio Christian will both be playing St. Joseph the next time they take the field. Saint Mary's Hall will head out to face St. Joseph at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while San Antonio Christian will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
