Basketball Recap: Independence Snaps 11-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Independence had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 31-26 victory over the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos on Friday. The Patriots have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Fighting Lobos, too.

La Joya Community's loss came despite strong showings from Bella Begay and Joyce Samuel. Begay posted six points along with 13 rebounds and four steals, while Samuel scored five points in addition to 12 boards and four steals. La Joya Community is 2-1 when Samuel posts eight or more boards, but 1-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Samaris Pena, who earned eight points and three steals.
