Basketball Game Preview: Newton-Conover Red Devils vs. Maiden Blue Devils

The Newton-Conover Red Devils will venture away from home to take on the Maiden Blue Devils at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, Newton-Conover strolled past Bunker Hill with points to spare, taking the game 67-49. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Bears are ranked 563rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Maiden ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 103-96 win over Lincolnton. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.

Maiden's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 87.5 points over those games. As for Newton-Conover, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Newton-Conover might still be hurting after the 79-53 defeat they got from Maiden in their previous meeting back in January. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Newton-Conover was down 46-20.
