Softball Recap: Horizon Honors Eagles vs. Willcox Cowboys
It was a good run, but Horizon Honors unfortunately witnessed the end of their 13-game winning streak on Tuesday. Their rough 10-4 loss to the Willcox Cowboys might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest runs Horizon Honors has scored all season.
Horizon Honors saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danica Guttierrez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Alexa Villaverde, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Even though they lost, Horizon Honors hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Willcox struck out six times.
On Willcox's side, Payton Fuentes was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Addison Burright was another key contributor, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Horizon Honors' defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-2. As for Willcox, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Horizon Honors will square off against Northland Prep Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northland Prep Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
