Baseball Recap: Willits Comes Up Short

Sonoma Academy hit Willits with a four-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wolverines took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coyotes. The defeat continues a trend for the Wolverines in their meetings with the Coyotes: they've now lost three in a row.

Corey Rocky was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only two earned runs while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Rocky was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and one RBI.

Willits' loss dropped their record down to 5-9-1. As for Sonoma Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Willits will venture away from home to square off against Calistoga at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sonoma Academy, they will challenge Technology at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
