Baseball Recap: Crown Point Comes Up Short

Crown Point extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They came up short against the Lake Placid Bombers, falling 18-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 14-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Lake Placid, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 14 runs or more this season.

For Lake Placid's part, Jarrett Mihill made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Mihill has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Jonathan Caito and Hyler Isham did most of the damage at the plate: Caito went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Isham went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Isham continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Owen Lawrence, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Coming up, Lake Placid will take on Bolton Central at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bombers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. Crown Point will be paying especially close attention to Lake Placid's matchup: after Lake Placid faces off against Schroon Lake, they'll take on Crown Point again at 4:30 p.m. on the 9th.
