Softball Recap: Portland Takes a Loss

If Portland was riding high fresh off their 20-13 takedown of Windham on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Highlanders lost 16-5 to the Old Lyme Wildcats on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Highlanders of the 14-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Portland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rowyn Kootz, who went 1-for-4 with one run.

Portland's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Old Lyme, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Portland will host Suffield at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Old Lyme, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Haddam-Killingworth at 3:30 p.m. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
