Basketball Recap: West Elk Takes a Loss

On Thursday, the West Elk Patriots lost to the Burlingame Bearcats at home by a 54-40 margin. The Patriots were down 46-23 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why West Elk lost, don't look at Maddex Moreno. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points and six boards. Moreno's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Garett Usry was another key player, putting up 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for West Elk and nudges their season record down to 10-8. As for Burlingame, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Elk won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Oxford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Elk is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season. As for Burlingame, they will square off against Mission Valley on Tuesday.
