Basketball Recap: Lansing Catholic Comes Up Short

If Lansing Catholic was feeling good fresh off their 82-45 takedown of Eaton Rapids last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lansing Catholic Cougars were outmatched by the Byron Center Bulldogs and fell 78-50. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 19th).

Despite the loss, Lansing Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Seth Hahnenberg posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Hahnenberg has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Tolfree, who put up 14 points.

Lansing Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Byron Center, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Lansing Catholic will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Portland at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Byron Center, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mona Shores at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Byron Center's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.
