Volleyball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

After a string of three wins, Newton's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces by a score of 2-1. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Aces apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Newton sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 17-25, 25-11.

Leading Mt. Carmel to victory were Gabby Schneider and Tenley Davis. Schneider had 13 digs and 13 assists, while Davis had ten digs and two assists. Davis has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last four times she's played.

Newton's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 14-11. As for Mt. Carmel, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Newton is set to challenge their familiar foe Marshall at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel will face off against rival Paris at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
