Baseball Recap: Cortez Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kingman, Cortez was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 12-8 win over the South Mountain Jaguars. The high-scoring effort was just what the Colts needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Kriztian Visuet made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Visuet was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andre Shepard, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Aeryk Snyder was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Cortez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cortez's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for South Mountain, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Cortez will head out on the road to face off against Shadow Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Shadow Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season. As for South Mountain, a feisty cat fight will be fought as South Mountain Jaguars challenge Glendale Cardinals at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
