Baseball Game Recap: Orion Chargers vs. Newman Central Catholic Comets

Orion and Newman Central Catholic pushed the score to 13-10 the last time they played Newman Central Catholic, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Chargers might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-1 to the Comets, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. If the Chargers were looking for revenge after losing 13-10 to the Comets when the teams met back in April of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Maddux Anderson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Jake Bainbridge also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Orion and nudges their season record down to 6-5. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only two runs. As for Newman Central Catholic, they pushed their record up to 9-1-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Orion and Newman Central Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Chargers (ranked 200th) will meet Monmouth-Roseville (ranked 431st) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Newman Central Catholic will take on Erie-Prophetstown at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (101 vs. 445).
